Before we start:

You will have received a 1Password link from a member of the team in order to gain access to your credentials and the SFTP server details, throughout the following guide. Elements are redacted for confidentiality and security, such as passwords and server details. Should you require a guide on accessing your 1Password shared link, this can be found here:

Some background on SFTP:

SFTP, or SSH File Transfer Protocol, is a way to move files between computers over the internet, but with an added layer of security. It's like a digital delivery service that not only sends your files from point A to point B, but also makes sure they're kept safe while in transit. This makes SFTP a better choice than FTP (File Transfer Protocol), which lacks this additional protection. Imagine FTP as a basic postal service for your files, where anyone who gets hold of the package can see what's inside. SFTP, on the other hand, is like sending your files in a locked box. Only the intended recipient, who can unlock the box with the correct username and password, can access the contents. This makes SFTP a go-to choice when you're transferring sensitive or critical files.

Before reading this guide, please ensure you have the following:

  • Internet Access
  • A SFTP client, for both Windows & MacOS we recommend FileZilla
    1. https://filezilla-project.org/index.php
      • Sparc Technology DMCC is not affiliated with FileZilla and provides no assurances in its use or integrity
  • Credentials to access the SFTP server, provided by a member of the Sparc Team.
  • 10 Minutes to read through this guide.

1.Install and open the FileZilla client

2.Enter the provided Host, username & password to the field at the top of the application.

  • The details you enter here are included in your 1Password provided URL.
  • By default, SFTP uses Port 22. However, on occasion we may instruct you to use a different port. This again will be specified in your 1Password provided URL. If no Port is specified Port 22 is in use by default.
    1. The port used is not dynamic and will not change unless you’re contacted by a member of the Sparc Team informing you of an explicit change.

3. Select ‘Quickconnect’

  1. You may receive a pop-up at this point for accepting the host key, please proceed.

Should you receive any errors in connecting at this point, please contact:

  1. helpdesk@sparc.ae

4. FileZilla by default works with two windows, left and right of each other. The left window being your PC’s files and the right window being the files and folders in the SFTP server

  1. From here the process is simply drag and drop, find and select the file from your PC and drag them to the right side (SFTP window)

6. During the upload process, the progress will be displaying at the bottom of the screen, this will also show when the upload is complete.

  1. This is an example of a download from the SFTP where the Direction column shows the file moving right to left

5.Upon the upload being complete, it will move to the ‘Successful transfers’ tab
